Buyer's Guide
Which sauna heaters are made in the USA?
Scandia is the only American maker of electric sauna heaters we found that posts prices. For steam, ThermaSol builds in Texas and Amerec in Minnesota.

Scandia is the American electric sauna heater to buy. The Idaho company says it has made heaters in the US since 1964, through a network of American manufacturers, and its Ultra Medium covers rooms up to 616 cubic feet for $1,300 to $1,750. The heater is UL listed and ships with its own control box. We looked for every American maker of electric sauna heaters and found one that posts prices. Harvia, Helo, HUUM, IKI and Tylö, the names on most heaters sold here, build in Finland, Estonia or Sweden. For steam rooms there are two American builders, ThermaSol in Texas and Amerec in Minnesota.
The heaters built here fit in one table

Makers' prices and ratings read Oct 10, 2026. Amerec's are 2026 list prices from its dealer price book. None of these makers says where its stainless steel comes from.
Scandia's Ultra Medium is the heater to buy
The Ultra Medium comes in 6, 7.5 and 9 kW, for rooms up to 294, 448 and 616 cubic feet. Scandia builds it as a brushed stainless wall heater with a solid steamer tray that keeps ladled water off the elements, and the rocks and a control box with the thermostat come in the price, per Scandia's page.
The 9 kW draws 37.5 amps at 240V, so it needs its own hardwired circuit and an electrician. Scandia's warranty covers the shell for ten years and the parts for one.
For a two-person room, the Ultra Small runs 3 or 4.5 kW for rooms up to 210 cubic feet, from $950.

Scandia doesn't name the plant
Scandia's homepage says it has been made in the USA since 1964 and that its heaters come from a network of manufacturers across the country. It doesn't say which town builds the Ultra or where the stainless and the elements come from. We've listed it with that gap stated, since the claim is Scandia's own and names the country.
Scandia's FAQ adds a useful detail: UL caps the ceiling temperature at 194°F (90°C) in a 7-foot room. UL 875, the standard electric sauna heaters are listed to, sets that cap.
Most heaters on American saunas come from Finland
Look inside the saunas built in Renick, Grand Rapids or Idaho Falls and you'll mostly find Harvia heaters from Finland. Finnleo's heaters are Finnish too, and HUUM and IKI build in Estonia. A small Upper Peninsula shop, ILO, builds heaters too, by its own account, but we couldn't find a price list or a safety listing for them.
A Finnish heater doesn't take a sauna off our list, since we sort saunas on their wood. Our method page explains how each listing names the heater it ships with.
Two American builders make steam generators
A steam shower runs on a generator in a nearby closet, and two of them are built in the US. ThermaSol assembles the PRO Series III in Round Rock, Texas, and Harvia bought ThermaSol in 2024, per Harvia's release. The generator ships without its control and steamhead, so you'll need to price those in, and the manual gives each size its own breaker.
Amerec builds the AK Series in Cokato, Minnesota. The AK carries an ETL listing and can cut a third or two-thirds of its elements once the room is hot, and you'll buy it through a dealer, per Amerec's 2026 catalog.
