Before you order
This page gathers what Almost Heaven publishes about the Salem, checked Oct 10, 2026, and adds up what it costs to install. Our verdict on it runs in Almost Heaven sauna review: are the West Virginia barrels worth it?.
Who should buy the Salem?
The Salem suits two people who want a barrel with the heater in the price and a corner of the yard too small for the bigger ones. Almost Heaven builds it in Renick, West Virginia, from western red cedar it sources in the US and Canada, and the 6 kW Harvia heater comes from Finland.
If you'll have friends over, the Pinnacle seats four on the same circuit for about $3,000 more. Kachemak Cooperage builds its smallest barrel in Anchorage from Alaskan spruce, for more than twice the price.
What does it take to install?
Plan a level base about 4 by 6.5 feet. The barrel runs 78 inches long and stands a little over 6 feet tall. An electrician runs a hardwired 240V, 30-amp circuit for the heater, and the light plugs into a separate 110V outlet. It ships as a kit in six to eight weeks, and the freight stops at the curb.

What to know before you buy
Western red cedar, electric, 240V hardwired. These decide whether it suits your space and your electrical panel.
- Western Red CedarWestern Red Cedar is the high-end sauna wood, and it resists rot and insects naturally. It's aromatic and conducts heat poorly, so benches stay cool enough to sit on at 194°F (90°C).
- ElectricAn electric heater holds a steady temperature on its thermostat and needs no chimney. Many models add app or timer control.
- 240V HardwiredA hardwired model needs a dedicated 240V circuit installed by an electrician. Build roughly $600–$2,500 into your total budget for it.
