Buyer's Guide
The best saunas built in the USA
Almost Heaven's Pinnacle is the barrel most buyers should get. For a sauna built from American wood, Sebago in Maine and Kachemak in Alaska are the makers to call.

Buy the Almost Heaven Pinnacle if you want a four-person backyard barrel that shows up ready for an electrician. It's built in Renick, West Virginia, with a Finnish Harvia heater, and lists at a little over $7,500. If you'd rather heat with wood, Setri's 4-person barrel from Grand Rapids, Minnesota comes with a stove you load from outside. We compared 22 saunas from 14 makers that say they build in the US, across backyard barrels and cabins, indoor rooms and infrared cabins. Every one of them is built here. Only two of the traditional sauna makers say their wood grew in the US: Sebago Sauna uses white cedar from Aroostook County, Maine, and Kachemak Cooperage uses Alaskan spruce. Both build to order and cost more, so each section below spells out what every maker says about the wood and the heater.
All 22 saunas show where they're built and what's imported
The table shows where each maker says it builds and what it says about the wood. The last two columns give the heater that comes with each sauna and its list price. Prices are the maker's own or a named dealer's, before freight, sales tax and the electrician.

Almost Heaven's Pinnacle is the barrel to buy
The Pinnacle suits two to four people with a level spot in the yard and room on the panel for a 240V, 30-amp breaker. Almost Heaven puts the heater and its stones in the box, so the only trade you hire is the electrician. Its benches run a little over five feet, and the staves are cedar close to an inch and a half thick, per the product page.
Picture it at the bottom of the yard in January, with the 6 kW Harvia warming the stones while you find a towel.
The base heater has dials and nothing else. Wi-Fi control through Harvia's Fenix adds about $1,000, so decide before you order. Freight stops at the curb, and Almost Heaven says the kit ships in six to eight weeks.

Go smaller with the Salem or bigger with the Blackwater
For two people the Salem is the same barrel, shorter, with the same 6 kW heater and 30-amp circuit, at about $3,000 less than the Pinnacle.
The Blackwater is a cube with upper and lower benches for four to six, and it's the only Almost Heaven model here offered with a wood stove. The electric version runs a 9 kW Harvia and needs a 45-amp circuit. Its $14,085 list price includes a metal roof.

Setri's Minnesota barrel heats with a stove from the Iron Range
Setri builds its barrels in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, and the 4-person model comes with an external-feed wood stove. You load the firebox from outside the hot room, so nobody climbs over the bathers with an armful of birch. Setri's sauna page says its stoves come from Range Steel on the Iron Range.
Buy it if you want heat without a 240V circuit, or a sauna at a cabin with no power. Plan a level base for about 800 pounds and a chimney clearance your building department will accept.
Setri's own product pages call the cedar imported and don't name the country. Freight isn't posted either, so get a delivery quote before you pay. For five people, the Nordheim Loki is a 6-by-6-foot cabin with a black metal roof and a Finnish Harvia M3 stove inside.

Cedarbrook's thick-walled kit suits a cold yard
Cedarbrook builds its outdoor kits in Woodinville and Cashmere, Washington, and its 5x7 walls are pre-built panels four inches thick, with cedar in the frame too. Cedarbrook rates them at R-20, which matters through a northern winter. The 8 kW Finlandia heater, rocks and guard rail are in the price, per the kit page.
The floor and the wiring aren't included. Budget for a slab or pavers and a 240V, 40-amp circuit, and line up a second person, because wall panels weigh as much as 150 pounds each. The kit page's posted lead time reads 36 weeks, so ask Cedarbrook for the real date before you plan a season around it.
Cedarbrook doesn't say where its cedar grew. Washington is cedar country, and if the answer turns out to be local, this would be the first sauna we list from American wood.

Sweat Kingdom costs less for a cabin with a big window
Sweat Kingdom builds in Idaho Falls, and its Sweat Cabin pairs a four-person cedar room with a picture window and an 8 kW Harvia KIP for $8,195, and Sweat Kingdom had it on sale for $7,445 when we checked. The maker quotes 170–200°F (77–93°C). It needs a hardwired 240V, 40-amp circuit, it ships in about five weeks, and Sweat Kingdom sells installation for $1,500.
The Sweat Barrel starts at $5,895 for two, with the same $750 off during the sale, and comes in lengths up to six people with a 6 kW heater. A cedar bevel roof costs $600 more.
Sweat Kingdom's own pages don't say where the cedar comes from. One of its dealers describes it as Canadian.

Sebago and Kachemak build from American wood
If the wood matters as much as the build, call Sebago Sauna in Jefferson, Maine. Its home page says it lines each sauna with eastern white cedar from Aroostook County and frames it with lumber grown and milled in western Maine, and it fits a Kuuma stove from Minnesota. The fixed price of $28,000 to $34,000 covers the sauna, the stove, delivery and installation on an 8-by-8 or 8-by-12-foot footprint.
In Anchorage, Kachemak Cooperage builds barrels from what its price list calls Alaskan white spruce, from $10,700 for a 6.5-by-6-foot barrel. Order the spruce. Kachemak offers western red cedar too and doesn't say where that grew, and its 8-by-8-foot barrel ships with a Finnish Harvia stove.
The weak spots are price and reach. Both build to order with a wait. Sebago installs what it builds, so ask how far it travels, and Kachemak quotes delivery separately, so ask whether it ships to the Lower 48.

Two Lake Superior builders make the showpieces
If the sauna is going to be the best-looking building on the property, look at Wisconsin. Superior Saunas in Ashland fabricates the VIM Oblique, a hot room of exposed cedar cross-laminated timber under an angled roof, with a 9 kW IKI Pillar heater from Estonia. It starts at $26,950 and ships as CNC-cut panels or fully assembled.
Cedar & Stone builds the Model 3 in Superior for two or three people, behind a glass wall. It arrives whole, at about 4,000 pounds, and new builds take four to six months from the deposit. At $49,900 it's the most expensive sauna in this guide. Cedar & Stone doesn't name the heater's brand or size, and a University of Minnesota Duluth report says its timber panels come from a maker in Ontario.

Finlandia's precut package is the pick for a basement
Finlandia cuts its packages in Portland, Oregon, to the framing measurements you send. The FPC56 lines a 5-by-6-foot room for three in clear western red cedar and comes with the benches, a prehung glass door, a light and a 6 kW heater Harvia builds in Finland. It's the way to put a proper sauna in a basement corner or a spare room.
You frame and insulate the room before the cedar goes up, then an electrician runs a 240V circuit with a 30-amp breaker. Finlandia sells through dealers, and the $6,468 here is the maker's list price as one dealer prints it.

The Auburn stands on the floor you already have
Almost Heaven's Auburn is a freestanding cabin for two or three that sits on an existing hard floor, at $4,577. Its 6 kW Harvia takes the room to 194°F (90°C), Almost Heaven says, on a 240V, 30-amp hardwired circuit. Buy it if you want a sauna in the garage without framing a room.
The standard heater has dials. Almost Heaven's installation service starts at $1,400 if you'd rather not assemble the panels yourself.

Three more indoor rooms are built in Minnesota, Pennsylvania and Washington
Finnleo's NorthStar is a 4-by-6-foot room of Nordic white spruce with a 4.5 kW heater from Finland and app control. It wires to one 240V, 30-amp circuit. Finnleo sells only through dealers, and the $9,499 here is one dealer's price, so get a local quote.
Baltic Leisure builds its 5 x 6 Silver Series in Oxford, Pennsylvania, with cedar inside and cabinet-grade plywood outside. At $13,246 it's the priciest indoor room here.
Cedarbrook's 4x6 indoor kit uses the same thick cedar panels as its outdoor model, with a 6 kW Finlandia heater. Cedarbrook says it reaches 170–195°F (77–91°C) in about 25 minutes, though the maker doesn't give a starting temperature.

TheraSauna is the far-infrared cabin to buy
TheraSauna builds its cabins in DeWitt, Iowa, and the TS5951 seats two on a straight aspen bench with ten ceramic emitters. It plugs into a 120V, 20-amp outlet, so most homes can run it without a new circuit. TheraSauna's own page says it carries an ETL listing. Infrared panels warm your body directly, and the air stays cooler than in a barrel.
TheraSauna publishes no prices, and the $6,995 here is one dealer's. Neither TheraSauna nor Almost Heaven says where its emitters are made, and for an infrared cabin the emitters matter as much as the wood.
Almost Heaven's Hinton seats two or three in cedar with five full-spectrum panels, at $6,840. Its product page calls for a 20-amp dedicated outlet and its manual for a 15-amp one, so ask Almost Heaven which before you wire it.

Near-infrared lamp saunas fold into a corner
A lamp sauna is a fabric tent on a wooden frame, facing a panel of heat lamps, for one person. Both of these are built in the Midwest from basswood.
SaunaSpace makes the FireLight Classic in Columbia, Missouri, from basswood it calls American, with four 250-watt bulbs. It draws 8.3 amps from an ordinary outlet. Sauna Comfort in Wisconsin sells a four-bulb pod on Wisconsin-grown basswood for $2,898, with two stools in the box.
Neither maker says where its bulbs are made. Sauna Comfort's three-year warranty leaves the bulbs out, so price a spare set into the first year.

Most cedar in these saunas crossed the border
Western red cedar grows from British Columbia down through Washington and Oregon, so a cedar sauna built in the US can easily be built from Canadian wood. Almost Heaven says its cedar comes from Northwestern US and Canadian forests and gives no split. Setri calls its cedar imported, and most of the rest don't say. Sebago's Maine cedar is the exception, along with Kachemak's spruce and the basswood SaunaSpace and Sauna Comfort call American.
We list them all because they're built here, in workshops from Renick to Idaho Falls, and each listing names what came from abroad. Our method page explains where the FTC draws the line on a Made in USA claim. When a maker publishes that its wood grew in the US, we'll say so in its listing.
Budget for the electrician and the ground under it
The sticker price leaves out a few costs. Most electric saunas here need a dedicated, hardwired 240V circuit, 30 amps for a 6 kW heater and 40 to 45 amps for 8 to 9 kW, per the makers' manuals. Get the electrician's quote before you order.
Outdoor saunas need a level pad, and most ship by freight to the curb, so plan how you'll move a few hundred pounds of cedar to the back of the yard. A wood stove trades the circuit for a chimney and whatever your county asks of one. Sales tax comes on top of every price in this guide.
How did we choose these saunas?
We started from every maker in our records that says it builds saunas in the US and kept the ones whose own pages confirm the build and post a price, or whose dealers do. We read each maker's product pages, manuals and spec sheets on Oct 10, 2026, and took prices from the maker's store or a named dealer that day. We didn't count owner reviews for this guide.
This guide draws on the product pages and manuals of Almost Heaven, Setri, Cedarbrook, Sweat Kingdom, Superior Saunas, Cedar & Stone, Sebago Sauna, Kachemak Cooperage, Finlandia, Finnleo, Baltic Leisure, TheraSauna, SaunaSpace and Sauna Comfort, read Oct 10, 2026, and listings from the dealers named in the table note.
Common questions
- Are any saunas made in the USA from American wood?
- Yes, from a few small builders. Sebago Sauna in Jefferson, Maine, says it builds with eastern white cedar from Aroostook County, Maine, and Kachemak Cooperage in Anchorage, Alaska, builds barrels from Alaskan white spruce. Most larger makers, including Almost Heaven, use cedar from US and Canadian forests or don't say where it grew.
- What electrical circuit does a backyard sauna need?
- Most electric backyard saunas need a dedicated, hardwired 240V circuit: 30 amps for a 6 kW heater and 40 to 45 amps for an 8 to 9 kW heater, per the makers' manuals. A licensed electrician has to install it.
- Is there an infrared sauna made in the USA?
- Yes. TheraSauna builds far-infrared cabins in DeWitt, Iowa, and Almost Heaven builds the Hinton infrared sauna in Renick, West Virginia. Neither maker says where its infrared emitters are made.
